Barometric Zone Dampers

The Barometric Zone Damper works like any standard damper with one exception - it has a built-in static pressure relief mechanism that eliminates the need for a bypass damper. Unlike a standard zone damper, the BZD has been designed with a blade that is controlled by an actuator and that will respond to high static pressure.

As simple as 1, 2, 3

  1. When all zones are calling, all zone dampers will open.
  2. As zones begin to satisfy, their dampers will close and the system static pressure will begin to rise. This will send a small amount of additional air to the zones that are still calling.
  3. When the static pressure reaches approximately 0.3" WC, the damper will begin to modulate open. This will send a small amount of air to the zone(s) that are not calling.

Tests indicate that bleeding a small amount of conditioned air for a short period of time to the zones(s) that are not calling has little impact on the temperature in the zone(s).
